Blogger's Paycheck

Blogger's Paycheck brings something a little different to the world of blogging books. This is a book whose author is a relative newcomer to the field of blogging for profit and the outsider's perspective he brings to the table is refreshing. Despite his lack of a history in the industry, John Yeo has written a guide which explains how to make an income from your blog which you can comfortably live off of.

Yeo tells you how he got into blogging, an interesting story in itself. He intended his blog to document his life as he prepared for his upcoming wedding and the blog started to draw a lot of traffic. This led to advertising sales on his blog and things just grew from there until Yeo's blog became his career.

Blogger's Paycheck takes a different approach then most of the guides to blogging you'll read. The book is broken up into 5 different sub-manuals which are anywhere between 10 and over 100 pages! You can decide to read each section in the order you want according to what information you need the most; a novel approach which we really enjoyed.

One thing Yeo addresses is something a lot of internet marketers are sorely in need of: focus. He makes a point which is accepted as common sense in other businesses but internet marketers seem to forget you have to stick with a technique long enough to give it a chance to work, rather than wasting your resources trying to throw everything against the wall at once to see if it sticks.

Especially helpful to beginners is the first section, which gives a comprehensive guide to getting your guide up and running. From finding a blog platform, to design elements, it‘s all here. The guide goes on to cover creating content for your blog, keyword research and usage and other SEO techniques.

The following section goes into traffic generation there's nothing new here, but all of the information he presents is solid and useful. There is a PDF on marketing techniques that has some good tips which are easy for even beginners to use, but are useful even to the professionals.

The section on monetizing your blog covers a lot of different methods, but focuses on selling ad space on your blog. Yeo tells you what you need to know about maximizing advertising sales income through effective layout and design. Unlike a lot of other blogging for profit guides, he even tells you how to create optimized pages specifically to get the interest of advertisers; which of course ensures more ad sales.

We haven't seen this idea laid out in any other guide we've reviewed, making this section especially interesting to bloggers interested in turning a profit from their efforts. There are a lot of extras included with Blogger's Paycheck, even instructional videos as part of the package.

Wordpress may be one of the simpler blogging platforms, but that doesn't make it any less baffling to newcomers, these videos make it easy to get started. There's also a ping list, which is vital to getting traffic to your blog and other great bonus resources which you can read more about on the sales page. Blogger's Paycheck is something completely different. Written by an industry outsider, yet contains everything you need to know to make your blog profitable. It's hard to follow what Yeo gives you here and not making money. Highly recommended.

Super Affiliate Blogger

Affiliate Marketing is attracting a lot of people and it's not hard to see why it's so popular. It's a great way to get into business for you. Market a product or service and get paid for your efforts, without having to handle inventories, shipping, customer service or any of the other things which usually come with selling something. When you use blogging as part of your affiliate marketing strategy, you maximize your profits.

Super Affiliate Blogger is a new eBook which covers blogging, but it takes a different approach to the topic than other books we've seen. Like other books on blogging, this electronic book covers the basics of getting started as a blogger, but the attention paid to affiliate marketing as the focus of your blogging efforts is what makes it different. You'll learn how to:

Start a blog: both the basics and more advanced techniques are covered here

  • Using keywords and other SEO strategies
  • Optimize your posts for search engines and create compelling titles for readers
  • Drive traffic through link exchanges and other methods.

These are all topics which you'll find covered in most of the eBooks on blogging. However, Super Affiliate Blogger goes into more detail than the rest and has an entire section on affiliate marketing. From explaining what affiliate marketing is to advanced marketing strategies for affiliates, just about everything you need to know is in this book.

While all of the information here is well written and very useful, there is one problem here; the book jumps into some pretty advanced terrain quickly. There's plenty about the basics, but this is followed by setting up a comprehensive affiliate marketing funnel using landing pages, PPC campaigns and the like.

Of course, those who have a little experience in affiliate marketing already will appreciate this kind of in depth information on advanced techniques, but beginners will probably find this difficult to get their heads around. They're interested in getting their blogs started before they even think about learning to build web pages, set up opt-in forms and try out a PPC campaign. However, even newcomers will eventually find this section to be useful once they've gotten a grasp of the basics.

The section on driving traffic was excellent. Unlike a lot of other guides we've seen, this book tells you everything you need to know about using RSS and directory submission. Since search engine algorithms and traffic driving best practices are always changing, using new technologies like RSS is vital.

There are some very useful bonuses included as well. There is some sample code to use to optimize your blog “a must have”. It's easy to use this technique, but a lot of bloggers never get around to it; this can give you an edge over your competitors

Super Affiliate Blogger also includes some great custom templates which you can use on your blog. There are many different styles which are great for different niches. Bloggers know that a good theme can be hard to find and making custom themes is even more challenging. These templates are great tools for beginners as well as professionals

If you want to learn how to rise to the top in the affiliate marketing business, Super Affiliate Blogger is an obvious choice. If you aren't interested in the advanced techniques covered in this book, then you might want to try something else. However, if your intention is to use the same strategies which have made the most successful affiliate marketing bloggers profitable, then this book is the way to go.

Blogging To The Bank

“Blogging to the Bank” has become a popular brand name by now, recognized by those in the for-profit blogging industry. Rob Benwell comes out with a new book and a crowd starts lining up to buy, just like that. However, he's going to have to do better than this latest book if he wants to keep the public interested in his work.

We're not saying that Blogging to the Bank 3.0 is a bad piece of work; it could be very helpful to those coming into blogging with no previous experience. At the same time, the promises made here of incredible earnings in a short time are only going to lead to disappointed readers who follow what they learn here.

No doubt Benwell himself makes quite a comfortable living from his work but he doesn't give away his secrets here. He covers the very basics of making money on the web, although just barely. There's no way that you could make six figures on what you'll find in “Blogging to the Bank 3.0”, the information just isn't there.

Benwell mentions selling your blogs to make money, but leaves it at that; there's no information given on how to sell or where! These kinds of omissions will lead a lot of people to pass on this book.

Now, there is one thing we have to mention which speaks to the lack of attention to detail in this work. Benwell talks a lot about the 3 big changes in the world of blogging which we all have to know. There are two listed and while these are genuinely useful bits of information, we were left wondering what happened to number 3.

With all of that out of the way, there are some things in here which “Blogging to the Bank” fans will like. The introduction is excellent and makes a good case for running your blog as a real business and why free blog hosting is not the way to go.

There is an intriguing section at the end that talks about how to get indexed fast. People who've had to deal with slow Google indexing will appreciate the free service Rob discusses here. Another cool bonus section at the end talks about a little known tactic to get high quality backlinks for free, for just a few minutes work. This is something we'll try on our own blogs and hope to see success.

This represents a shift from the first book in the series, which is all about monetizing free blogs. Benwell also includes his 5 commandments of blogging, which are helpful to anyone who blogs with a profit in mind. The book also covers:

  • Different ways to monetize your blog
  • Where to get both free and paid content for your blog so you can spend less time writing content
  • Traffic generation techniques

There is also a good chapter about getting your blog indexed quickly. If you've ever waited weeks for Google to notice your blog, you'll find this information especially useful.

You’ll find a great bonus section on getting good quality back links for no cost with just minutes of your time. We've tried this one out for ourselves interested in seeing how it goes. This book is short, even by e-book standards and all in all, it doesn't deliver on what it promises readers.

However, if you've yet to try out the “Blogging to the Bank” series, then this book may be worth a read, since the 1st edition is included as a bonus. If you’re looking for something more comprehensive, you may want to pass on this one. This one has the feel of a rush job thrown out on the market to cash in on the popularity of the series.
